Katie Rempe: Hey there Magical Makers and Knitters. I'm Katie, host of the Knit a Spell podcast and creator of Light from Lantern knitting patterns, where every pattern has a touch of magic in every stitch.
This is an extra special episode because it is the first one where I am combining our horoscope for knitters right here on the podcast, meaning you can now watch it on YouTube or listen to it via streaming on your favorite podcast app.
This month, I'm featuring the brand new Apothecary Spirits Oracle Deck.
This is a collaborative effort between Eric, Michael, and Thomas of Hermit's Mirror, who might sound familiar because he is a past guest right here on the podcast. I'll be sure to link that episode if you're interested in watching him because he was a very inspiring interview and one that we had for right around Christmas time to let you know that actually you are the gift worth giving.
It was a really great episode. Highly recommend.
These readings are meant to be inspiring and align your knitting to the energy that will align with the card chosen.
So whether you're casting on a new project or working through one that is still in progress, I hope this advice helps you get through the month with a little extra boost.
Before we dive in, if you enjoy these horoscopes, be sure to subscribe to the channel
or the podcast so that you can get even more magical knitting content.
And if you feel inspired, go ahead and share this video with a fellow knitting friend. I'd love to hear their feedback.
Let's shuffle up these amazing cards and see what November holds for us knitters. First, roll that intro.
Light from Lantern presents Knit a Spell. I'm your host, Katie Rempe, designer, knit witch, and your companion in this magical making podcast. Together, let's explore the enchanted world where knitting meets the magic of the craft.
let's give these cards a nice shuffle before we pull our first card for Aries.
I'm really excited to show off this deck to you because the art is so beautiful. It's very whimsical. It is very inclusive and overall very informative.
Aries
---
Katie Rempe: So without further ado, let's see what the first card holds for Aries. Marigold.
Now, I am not super familiar with all of these herbs and apothecary spirits, and so I'm going to be turning to the guidebook for a little extra reference. This guidebook is super comprehensive and in full color, which doesn't always happen. And so I'm going to find marigold as our first card to see how we can apply this to knitters.
Your keywords are honor, respect, and offering.
And what more appropriate card, really, because this is often an offering around this time of year for your departed loved ones.
So Aries, if you're a crafter who maybe you have access to grandma's blanket that she knit for you, or you have an unfinished project from a departed loved one. This could be a great month to embrace that energy, finish that project, or just bring it back out and give it a little extra love.
And if you don't have anything like that around, maybe what you're making now will soon be the thing that is respected by someone else. Whether it's a new project, gift you're making for someone or it's something you're making for yourself that in the future could be a remembrance of you.
So whatever you're making this month, make sure it's something you enjoy because it could be around for a long time.
Taurus
---
Katie Rempe: Next up, we have Taurus. And for Taurus, we have Lobela.
The key words for this card, according to the guidebook, are clearing, cleansing and purging. You know what that means. Time to go through your stash. Clear out anything that you no longer like. Lots of times we hold on to yarns and then, you know, two, five, ten. Twenty years later, we're like, oh, I don't even like this yarn anymore.
Well, why let it sit in your stash when it could be doing someone else some good? Clear out that energy. Let it go to a new home. There's someone waiting for that yarn, even if it's not you. So give it new life and pay it forward.
This could also apply to Maybe having too many works in progress. Again, very similar to having a large stash that's doing nothing but collecting dust. Go through your works in progress this month and see which ones do you really want to finish and put your time towards and which ones are just sort of a bummer that they're hanging around and you don't even want to work on anymore.
We were just talking on a recent episode of the show about how sometimes we have works in progress for so long that we don't even fit in them anymore, or our taste levels have totally changed. And so, why keep them around when you have no intention to finish them anyway? Clear them out and let room for new projects come to you.
Maybe that'll be in December, because it's hard to make room when you're stuffed with so much well stuff.
Gemini
---
Katie Rempe: Next up, we have Gemini. And for Gemini, we have
Cayenne. Ooh, spicy.
I'm looking for K Cayenne, jeez. It's a C.
And the key words for Cayenne are riot, sacred rage, and righteous anger. Well, you know. It is November, after all.
Sometimes embracing rage and anger can be really cathartic.
And if you're a woman or a minority, you might often feel like you have to suppress that feeling in order to fit in and not be judged. Maybe that's coming in the form of making projects that feel safe. Maybe you want to get a little outrageous.
Embrace the energies of Cayenne this November.
Rage can be a great motivator. Maybe there's a project that has been pissing you off. Well, first of all, you don't have to work on it. You could rip it out, throw it out, or just get rid of it. Or just put it in timeout. You don't have to work on it.
I've pulled out some projects that I've really hated and it has felt awesome. Additionally, you can channel rage, anger, into a project. There's nothing so satisfying as creating something with the intention to destroy it. Sometimes, this can embody feelings that we feel about the world that we feel like we can't do anything with.
This is a great way to funnel that energy into a project that you can then destroy without hurting yourself.
Use this energy symbolically to put into a project. And if you want to cut it all up at the end or responsibly burn it, don't do that with synthetics though, because it's, But if it's a natural fiber, put it in the fire pit. Put all of that energy into the project and release it.
You could even ditch it in a graveyard dumpster if you want.
As if to say, this energy, this energy. Thing is dead to me. It's a great way to Funnel that rage that high emotion into something productive and work through it. meditation
Cancer
---
Katie Rempe: Okay, Cancer for you. We have
Irish moss Somehow, this seems like a very cancer card.
Similar, but perhaps on the other side of the spectrum to Cayenne, Irish Moss embraces the energy of deep thought, meditation, and introspection.
Embrace your feels this November.
If you feel like you've been holding onto emotion and you haven't been able to release it, this could be a great month to choose a project to use as a meditation. As you're knitting, whatever project it may be, maybe it's in a color that makes you feel the energy that you need to release. Or maybe it's a stitch pattern that you're feeling like really embodies that energy.
Work on it and think, what are these emotions? Why are they in you? How can you work through them? How can they serve you and then move on their way? Because this is a very fluid card.
And even if you're working through tough emotions, maybe it's grief, maybe it's loss, maybe it's depression, all of these emotions are valid. And the best part is knitting something is slow. It gives you plenty of time to think, especially if you want to be alone or you're doing it when you have a little extra time, it could just be five minutes a day to use this as a cathartic action.
And then when you're finished with the project, go ahead and give it a nice long soak. Again, embracing that water energy, that cleansing vibe, because then you can truly recharge it into something that could be the answer to that emotion that you're working through. So if it's grief, perhaps you're remembering them, celebrating their life.
And that doesn't mean these emotions are gone. Certainly, we have learned grief, like Courtney Weber has said, is a spiral.
All emotions are valid, Cancer. And this month, you are valid, too.
Leo
---
Katie Rempe: Alright, Leo, for you we have T!
And certainly there are many T's and so maybe this is a month of working on several different projects. Choosing the one that represents your energy of the day. Maybe this also is an invitation to knit with your knitting circle or a knitting friend. Whether that's in person or online, you could literally pour tea and spill tea together.
That's another fun thing to do when knitting is using it as a social aspect.
And if you're finishing a project this month, you could even sprinkle in just the tiniest bit of your favorite favorite tea into the blocking water. Now, if you're blocking something white, maybe test on a swatch first just to make sure it's not going to accidentally dye anything, but even a small bit of that energy of the herb can infuse the water and project with the same elements.
So if you have a favorite tea, but you're not exactly sure what the correspondences might be with the tea. like a black tea versus a green tea or an herbal tea or what herbs are in it, go ahead and do a quick little search and see what those energies might mean and how you could incorporate them in your project or in your knitting circle.
Plus staying hydrated while you're making is always a good idea.
Virgo
---
Katie Rempe: All right, Virgo, for you, we have garlic.
I love garlic. So as a Virgo, I'm here for this.
And the keywords for garlic are wonder, possibility, and everyday magic.
I must read the first line here because I feel like I wrote this. " There is never enough garlic, if you ask me. I often double or triple the amount of garlic in a dish." I have been asked to reduce the amount of garlic that I often have in a dish, and it hurts me.
Garlic is a magical herb. It does so much. It can really help heal the body and in Interesting social interactions, perhaps something with a lot of gossip or negative energy. If you have a bowl of garlic at the center, it will absorb those negative energies so that at the end, everyone can feel better.
Just pro tip don't eat that garlic go ahead and get rid of it because you don't want to reabsorb those energies that you've just released.
Garlic is a great reminder that mundane things can be magical So if you've sort of felt not really into knitting lately, or you haven't really seen it as a magical practice Just remember that Knitting is magic. It was once just fiber on an animal or in a plant, and now it's spun up into yarn, dyed into a beautiful color, and you are creating of your will that this yarn is now a shawl or a sweater and truly that is magical.
So whatever you decide to work on this month Virgo, just know it's magical and so are you. Embrace these mundane opportunities and make them your own.
Libra
---
Katie Rempe: Okay Libra, for you we have Gentian Root. And maybe I'm saying this wrong, so if I am you can feel free to correct me in the comments.
What an interesting card this is.
The keywords for this card is destruction, breaking down, decomposition. This seems like another theme that is starting to repeat for November.
This herb is really about breaking things down. And so, if you are stuck on a project, or you're interested in learning a new skill, or a new craft altogether, but you felt it was very overwhelming, you can do it. Break it down into itself. smallest bits. Sometimes we just need to remember to make some micro moves because over time, those micro moves turn into major moves, big learning.
You don't have to decide tomorrow to learn how to crochet figure it all out. You could just get yarn and get a hook and do one stitch.
And then after a couple of days, maybe you learn how to do another stitch. And by the end of the month, you could be a low key pro on all of those beginning things of launching yourself into a new exciting opportunity. Whether, again, that's Maybe just making progress on something you've been rather sluggish on or infusing your excitement for knitting altogether by investing time in learning a new craft because oftentimes Cross crafting is a great way to make your main craft more exciting
Inspire yourself to push your limits a little bit because maybe your limits are were bigger than you're giving yourself credit for. And at the end of the month, you could feel a great sense of accomplishment.
Scorpio
---
Katie Rempe: Next we have Scorpio. Ooh, cacao.
Ow, What a Scorpio card, huh? Ooh.
Sensuality, physicality, and hedonism.
For you, Scorpio, I really see this as embracing projects that give you a sense of satisfaction.
Maybe November is just the month where you knit for you. No gift knitting yet.
And if you've had one of those little bikinis, or a little pair of shorts, or something else that's a little sassy on your queue for a long time, this might be the month to finally cast it on.
Give yourself a boost by indulging this month. I actually feel like last month you also had a card that was like, cast on something new, so go ahead, cast on something new. Or, Finish something and indulge in that. Ooh, finishing process. Now you have that thing that you've been working towards. You can show it off.
You can wear it around. You can just feel that amazing sense of accomplishment.
Indulge in yourself this month, Scorpio.
Saggitarius
---
Katie Rempe: Okay, Sagittarius, for you, we have Beeswax.
I am in love with this color and now I'm realizing it's very similar to the hexagonal tarot spread cloth that I made for the hurricane, which I do plan on writing out and releasing at some point this month.
So if you're not on my newsletter, lightfromlantern. com is where you can sign up.
According to the book, beeswax is bringing together, solidifying, and preserving.
If there's a feeling, or an energy, or a memory that you want to affix into a project, this would be a great month to do so. So if you need to start a new project in order to embrace that energy, maybe make it something small so that you can just buzz right through it And really infuse that energy into it really quickly.
Because once you're finished, that energy will always be within it. Now, of course, you can always do things to release that energy, but if you're doing it with the intention for it to be preserved then you might want to do a blocking ceremony afterwards that would even further instill it in there.
Maybe you put a little beeswax in the blocking water.
And if you're a Sagittarius that is selling something this month, you might find that you are quite abundant because anything to do with bees brings pollination and abundance and growth.
So you might find that sales are pretty consistent this month. Fingers crossed.
Capricorn
---
Katie Rempe: Next up we have Capricorn, and for you we have Echinacea. It's the card on the box!
I think this is such a beautiful card. I mean, I think they're all beautiful cards, but something about these colors, oof, maybe you're knitting something this month in these beautiful colors, these purples and these yellows, the orange, they're just yummy.
Echinacea's key words are individuality, uniqueness, and isolation.
You might have heard about it being used to treat things like the common cold.
It's also a friend to pollinators. So maybe you're going to be hanging out with a Sagittarius.
This month, treat your knitting like your medicine.
Sometimes, if you're feeling under the weather, you just want to reach for something that feels like an old friend. Whether that's a project you've already finished and you want to snuggle up with again, or a project you just love working on, a pattern maybe you've made over and over again, that familiar feeling.
Allow that energy to be like your medicine and treat that emotion.
And if you feel like the project is a little bit wild, embrace it.
You don't always have to follow the pattern. It's just a guideline. If you decide suddenly you want to put garter stitch in it, a bunch of baubles, or make it all sorts of different colors, embrace it. Trust me, go with your gut and you will be so excited with how the project turns out in the end.
Aquarius
---
Katie Rempe: Next up we have Aquarius, and for you we have Vinegar.
Vinegar is all about maintenance, support, and persistence.
This is not the month to start a bunch of new projects.
Instead, maintain projects you already have in the works. Persist through them so that you can actually finish something, because when you don't, it can get kind of bitter. And sometimes that's a good thing, but in this case, use that as motivation to actually put time into something you wanted to knit to begin with.
Start a routine this month to finish a project. That is my challenge to you, Aquarius.
Take five minutes in the morning, or five minutes during your lunch break, to do a little bit of work on that project that you choose to finish this month. Because guess what? Even if you don't actually finish it by the end of the month, you will have made significant progress and ultimately that is a win and it will make you feel Fulfilled.
Come on rebel stick with it.
Pisces
---
Katie Rempe: And finally we have Pisces and for Pisces we have Oosnia Someone help me with how to pronounce this wow. I love this figure
persona, performance, and Masquerade are the energies of this card for you this month.
This is a great reminder to stay true to yourself. Quite often we can get wrapped up in knitting projects that are just trendy, even if we don't actually really like them.
Or maybe we get a little bit talked into a certain color of yarn that maybe we wouldn't have chosen otherwise, which in some way is good. Way to step out of your comfort zone.
If you feel like you've been giving too much, this is a reminder that you don't have to give it all away. Some things you can keep just for you. Whether that's your time, or a project that people keep asking you to gift to them because they love it so much. You know, they could learn to knit too.
Conversely, maybe this is the month to go outside of that comfort zone and cast on a project that you would think, Oh, it wouldn't look good on me, or, uh, I don't usually make that kind of a thing. But you are interested in making it, there is definitely a reason. This project has something to teach you.
And that might be that you never want to make another one of it again. But at least you know, you tried, you put on for a moment that persona of a person that could be the one that you want to be. Because how do we know if we don't try?
I continue to remind people that the best part of knitting is that you can always pull it out and reuse the yarn. Yarnspirations. com
So don't let the possibility of something turning out, maybe not the way you intended, stop you altogether. It could turn out even better.
That does it for our Zodiac signs for the month. Which card did you get for your Zodiac sign and how does it apply to you? Let me know in the comments.
And if you've loved looking at the beautiful cards in this deck, remember it is the Apothecary Spirit's Oracle.
