Katie Rempe: Have you ever wondered how the power of symbols could transform your knitting projects into something truly magical?
Stay tuned to discover how this season will unlock the hidden power of symbols in your stitches.
Season opener. Here we go.
Light from Lantern presents Knit a Spell. I'm your host, Katie Rempe, designer, knit witch, and your companion in this magical making podcast. Together, let's explore the enchanted world where knitting meets the magic of the craft.
Katie Rempe: Welcome back to Knit a Spell. We are in our fall season. It's 2024. And this is episode 133 for anyone who's actually keeping count.
And with a brand new season, of course, comes a brand new theme. Stay tuned for that in just a moment, because you might be curious at this point, Katie, why are you alone? Don't you typically have a co host and isn't he the amazing James Divine? Yes,
here. Come in. Let's get cozy.
Dear listeners. I want to take this moment to share some news with you. Our beloved co host, Jim, will not be returning this season, as he embarks on an exciting new chapter. Jim is dedicating his time to growing and expanding his palmistry business, The Divine Hand.
This summer and through the rest of the year, he is going to be super busy traveling, performing readings, and he might even be writing a little something.
But don't worry, Jim's not gone forever. He'll be making occasional guest appearances, so you'll still get to enjoy his wisdom and charm from time to time.
You Can continue to follow Jim's journey on Instagram, where he is at DivineHandJim, and of course sign up for his newsletter on his website, TheDivineHand. com.
As we move forward, you're in good hands with your knit witch, Katie Rempe.
Together we'll continue to explore the magical world of knitting and the craft. And with over a hundred episodes behind us, we have so many more enchanting episodes to look forward to. We wish Jim all the best and thank him for the amazing memories we've created. Here's to many more magical stitches ahead.
Fall Theme Reveal
---
Katie Rempe: Now comes the time where we do the exciting introduction of this season's theme.
And that theme is knitting with symbols, signs, and sigils. Oh my.
We see signs and symbols in everyday life all the time. And if you're someone who's thinking, no, I don't. Yes, you do. Anytime you go down the road, if you see that stop sign, guess what? It's a sign to stop.
Every shop probably has a sign to let you know what's inside.
Religious practices, ancient symbols, math signs. They're all symbols and signs that we know how to interpret due to a collective consciousness.
Even your phone will give you a sign when you get a notification.
All that to say that we use signs and symbols in everyday life for all sorts of things. And so why not become mindful of how we can use them in knitting? It's a great way to absorb the energy of the sign or symbol into your knitting, and it's an even better opportunity to use your creativity
to create your own. Because while you can, of course, apply a sign or a symbol, let's say a heart to a hat by way of various techniques, maybe you want to make your own sigil.
This season we'll unpack all that and more with experts in so many fields, sigils alone. We're going to have back Laura Tempest Zakroth, our resident sigil expert.
And this season in particular, I made an effort to invite back so many of our prior guests that I know you've loved and enjoyed.
Part of the fun of breaking down signs and symbols that are surrounded in the knitting world is there's going to also be a lot of practical information covered in this season. So people who are new knitters and more advanced knitters are very likely to glean things that maybe they either didn't know or never really thought of.
We're going to do a comprehensive breakdown of yarn labels and how you can interpret things to use those magically. So We're really going for the crooks of practical magic here this season.
And I hope it inspires you to add a little magic to your knitting if you haven't yet.
Patreon Update!
---
Katie Rempe: Speaking of changes, there's also a new benefit for our Patreon subscribers.
I'm introducing a brand new segment. It's the Knit A Spell Aftershow. I may have also referred to it as Knit A Spell After Hours. So if you have a strong preference towards Aftershow versus After Hours, let me know and maybe I'll make the change.
The After Show is an exclusive extended episode with extra woo banter, A Q& A question round, all on that week's topic. It's a great way to get to know our guests even more in a slightly more relaxed atmosphere.
Joining the Knit A Spell Patreon is a great way to support the show, further connect with me, your host, and of course, fellow fans. Get all the benefits for 5 a month, which I bet is less than the last coffee you bought. It sure was for me. It was 10.
This week it will be yours truly, hosting the After Show, so go ahead and pop on there to learn even more about signs and symbols, what's to come up next, what guests we'll be featuring, and all of that good stuff in this season's Reveal After Show.
New Weekly Segment!
---
Katie Rempe: Another new segment for this season is a weekly color card pull. These are all the colors that Ewe Ewe Yarns comes in, their fluffy fingering.
Which I used in an episode of Horoscope for Knitters, maybe a couple of months ago. I did a tarot card and a complementary color to do the reading together and it was awesome. So this season I'm going to be pulling a color card at the end of every episode to see what is in store for us as knitters.
This color is going to help guide us, help aid us so that we can have a really great week ahead.
This Week's Color
---
Katie Rempe: In fact, let's wrap up this episode by pulling our color of the week right now. Give it a nice shuffle. It's in my majesty bee bag, because obviously.
All right, ready? Here we go. Oh,
has a lot to say. Okay. That one is not it. This one is it. So of course it is gold. This is in particular, this is color 30 saffron. If you're someone who is looking to see like, well, how do I divine a color? Just from a, from a yarn. There's several ways that we can do this by looking at the signs that we see here.
So most predominantly is likely the color. I see this is a gold. It's named saffron. And then that leads me to number two. The name of the color is another way that you can read into what the energy of the color itself might be.
So saffron is a very expensive, rare, spice. And so when you get some, it's opulent, it's rich, and it is so vibrant. You only need a little to make a lot of this color and it will stain. And then third, ironically, is the color number. This is color 30.
We could reduce this by adding three plus zero and just getting three as the overall energy here. So if we wanted to add numerology as an element to divine this color. That's how we could go. So it's. Three, that's the number of creation, communication. We're having ideas and we're having the momentum to get them done.
Jim would probably say Oh, this is your action hand with your thumb out action.
So all three of those things are ways that you could choose to divine what this color means. Or you could just choose to see how the color reacts within you when you see it, if you react to it and think, Oh, this is gold like money, then perhaps you are going to have a very abundant week ahead.
Or if you look at this and you say, wow, that's the sun, maybe you're gonna have a week full of energy. You're gonna feel like you're in your power, you're gonna be courageous.
Or maybe this color just makes you really happy and it makes you want to go and hang out with friends to be social.
In fact, I would say all of those are very valid readings that we could have for the week ahead. Embrace being abundant, embrace being social, and embrace being courageous.
And if you, Knit A Spell fan, have your own interpretation of this color, I'd love to hear it! You can leave a comment on this video if you're watching on YouTube, or you can send me an email at [email protected].
What a first episode this has been to kick off our fall season! While there's a lot of changes, I think you're going to find that this is going to be a very exciting season, and I look forward to connecting with you all more than ever.
And if you're on Patreon, I'll see you shortly in the after show.
Join me next week when owner of Skein Shop, Sasha Ogden, returns to explore the concept of Bobblemancy, and we may even have a brand new pattern introducing the concept.
Until then, Merry Make!
